Overview
Dentistry (or Dental Medicine) is a specialized surgical and medical discipline focused on the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases of the oral cavity, maxillofacial region, and adjacent structures. While traditionally separate from general medical school (MBBS/MD), dentistry is fully integrated into medical education through joint foundational science courses, hospital rotations, and cross-disciplinary fields like Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It bridges oral health with systemic health, recognizing that oral diseases can significantly impact conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular health, and pregnancy.
